Catholic mom picked the wrong hill to die on: the argument that her daughter needs to wear a white disco suit to her First Communion to "feel accepted as herself" is absurd. Wearing weird clothes to formal occasions is a pretty sure way to get rejected by both one's peers and their parents.

It sounds like the priest was being nicer than he had to be, offering the kid an opportunity to take her First Communion privately if she didn't want to conform to the dress-code. I'd have to agree with him, that it was the parents' responsibility to tell the child to suck it up and wear the stupid dress for two measly hours if she wanted to take part in the public ceremony.

Wonder what sort of kerfuffle there'll be when the kid is graduating from high school, and only feels she can be truly comfortable and accepted as 'herself' if she wears something that makes her stick out like a sore thumb amid all the conventional caps and gowns.
