Succession
I thought Queen Elizabeth was trying to do what Great-Granny couldn’t: outlive her idiot son. Turns out she doesn’t have to.

ETA: Looks like she can’t do it after all. The United Kingdom is still faced with the prospect of a Royal Homeopath.

This does not smell real to me. The rules have changed since Elizabeth I was able to name her own successor. Elizabeth II has no unilateral right to do this. It would take either an act of renunciation by Charles himself, or a formal Act of Parliament deleting him, to remove him from the succession.

Also, even if Charles were an "idiot son," which he isn't, that criterion wouldn't apply to Edward VII, who had been a layabout youth by the standards of his tiger parents, but became a dedicated and competent (by the standards of the breed) king.

Not to be one of those people, but Snopes says this is false.

Still -- false or true, it does make one think about what it must be like to be Charles, spending one's entire life prepping for a job that is most likely not going to happen, at least not in any meaningful way. He really should have just run off to Patagonia years ago.
