Has Charlie Stross failed adulting?

He's not wrong that we absorb the template of the adults in our lives, but how does not doing what they did equate to not being adults? It really makes me crazy to hear people in their 30s (and older) say they are not adults or they've failed adulting or they abjure adulting. Feeding into this is my own love of being an adult and being in charge of my own life. Being a kid sucked. Kids have no agency.

Agree. I can do all the grown-up things that the prospect of doing frightened me at the age of ten, and the fact that I don't usually wear a tie has nothing to do with this. (In fact, sometimes I do wear a tie, and I know how to tie one, too, which many men my age can't.)

Who's to say that previous generation of adults was doing adulting as adulting is to be done?
