Since there doesn't appear to be a way to comment there, her point about representation made me think about one of the best moments in watching the Rio Olympics: when the announcer was talking about one of the women Brazilian volleyball players, and casually mentioned her wife, $name. No fuss, no titillation, just a name. How the world has changed.

Yes. Yes it has. I think it's important to remind ourselves of such changes, too, especially because there's so much work to be done (and sometimes, to be re-done); it's easy to become discouraged, but some historical perspective can help a lot.

I'm 51. White, male, Canadian. I remember being a teenager (1981? 1982?) and feeling a vague sense of pride at my own "tolerance" because I didn't care if someone was gay, "so long as he doesn't bother me."

I won't apologize for the 15 year-old I was, but Jesus - I'm glad I've grown a little since then.
