It is appalling that this sort of thing is still going on. But then, there's a lot about the current state of "education" that is appalling. But this is a battle that was fought decades ago, and (some of us thought) was won.

As a very young person (from my present perspective of almost a century), I was called in to talk to some school official about my failure to wear a bra. I pointed out that I was hardly old enough to need one, but the official was adamant.

But so was I. At that time, I had a swimming suit the top part of which was constructed exactly like a bra, little white hooks and all, except that the fabric was a vivid red. I also had an almost transparent white frilly blouse which I wore for concerts of the prestigious orchestra of which I was a member. (Always with appropriate undergarments.)

So. The following week I came to school wearing these two items together. All week. The officials were furious, but what could they do? I was wearing a bra, and everyone could see that I was. The officials spoke to my mother, but she was strongly on my side of the argument.

My next argument with authority concerned PDA, which in those long ago days, stood for Public Displays of Affection. And was Oh, so wrong.
