We had to close one of our US factories, partially because our management team couldn't visit it without hassles. I went down several times, and my friend Fadi (who was born in the Middle East) ALWAYS got pulled aside, was delayed, and was treated rudely by the airport security personnel.

(US border agents do pre-screening on Canadian soil before you get on the plane at my airport, so he got hassled going both ways).

... wow. that's horrifying on several levels. It's horrifying how he was treated and it's horrifying to think of all the lost jobs, both because the US is using bigotry as a rubric for 'security'. Ugh. I feel terrible for him and for everyone who used to work there.

... actually, harassment of our management team may also be why we closed another of our factories in the US, but I only actually know for sure that it was a factor for one of them.

Good for me though, as we transferred the production from both those US factories to my factory. And my factory is so diverse, I got pulled into a video shoot last week for a different team because the videographer wanted "at least one white guy, so it doesn't seem like a Beneton ad"

The earlier reports didn't include the detail that he was taken off the plane to be questioned.

It was still completely ridiculous.

+1 for reference to algebra's history.

I'd like to speak with the reporting passenger. Was this her response to perceived Arabic, or purely to something she didn't recognize? Does she have bad anxiety with flying, that attached to this seatmate? Was she out of her skull at the time with whatever made her not medically able to fly?
