Why it’s fun to punish. I hate being an evolved animal.

????? It's not actually fun to punish, though. I think this is one of the many scenarios in which imagining or role-playing is not the same as the reality. I would also go so far as to say that experiments on subjects who are already damaged do not yield valid results for undamaged populations.

Obviously, no experiment has confirmed this, and probably none ever will, because of the widespread tacit acceptance of the idea that it's normal for human children to be profoundly damaged by abuse. Nonetheless, my hypothesis is that people who had never been punished (with dirty secret pleasure) "for their own good" in childhood would not take dirty secret pleasure in punishing others.

Maybe the human animal is not as 'evolved' as some are flattered to suppose.
