There is no Judeo-Christian idea of pregnancy.

As with many/most things, there is no Christian idea of pregnancy either. Christianity has a variety of sects and individuals, and they do not share a theology of pregnancy. (Why should pregnancy be more universal to Christian theology than something directly practical to it, like the theology of baptism or the theology of communion, or, hey, how many sacraments there even are for Christians to have theology of?)

Last I checked, there was still some debate about the Trinity...

Seriously. Any time someone tries to tell you "the Christian idea of _____," they're trying to sell you something you probably shouldn't buy. This has driven me completely bazoo with "the Christian idea of marriage." Christians do not even agree on whether marriage is a sacrament, much less the details of what a good marriage involves for Christians. People who talk about "the Christian idea of marriage" are hoping to coopt millions who disagree with them in one fell swoop.

(Exception: sometimes you'll see this phrasing for something like "the Christian idea of caritas," which means they're introducing vocab...whose implementation Christians argue about.)

Heh. The only part about Christianity I ever really liked was the arguing.

There's pretty much no Judeo-Christian anything. There are so many differences in basic beliefs that it's hard to find commonality.

Yes, this. I hate the term. It's almost entirely used by Christians to justify things at which a lot of Jews would look askance. Fuck that.

Yes, exactly. To be fair to them, most of them have no clue what Jewish beliefs actually are.

Which makes it even worse, in a way.

I recently added a new folder near the top of my bookmarks for links I keep using over and over, and sure enough, I get to use this one again: The ‘biblical view’ that’s younger than the Happy Meal
