Wright's piece has been quoted from so often now that it's astonishing that he thinks he can hide it. In fact, he's taken to defending himself by claiming that critics want to attack him personally (by citing that) rather than say anything negative about the quality of his fiction (though he's missing a lot if he really thinks nobody's doing that).

I think it's a shame that the piece has been deleted (& thanks for the cite to an archival version). I find it the absolutely finest example of a coherent, but insane, Rant I've ever seen. It may, indeed, be the best thing Wright has ever written and (IMO) deserves to be preserved for/e/v/e/r/ at least the next 500 years.

A classic indeed. I particularly liked the traditional homophobic image of the attack from behind, even though he was dealing with a different form of what our lawbooks used to call the abominable and detestable crime against nature.
