The conclusion of that essay is so apt for so many issues: "For some people, the tribe is more important than the truth". For some people, "the tribe" is the basis not only for deciding what's true, but for deciding what's right or wrong. This is how the Republicans could blithely ignore Newt Gingrich's adultery while using Bill Clinton's adultery as the opening wedge to try to oust him from office. It's not what they did, but what tribe they belonged to.
