Jonathan Swift was right
For some reason Firefox has decided to approach the network named after shit-flinging monkeys with a firm grip on its own ankles, and it no longer defaults to Google for searches. Fortunately, we have a computer self-defense professional in the household, and he will fix it.

ETA: I figured out how to switch it back myself, but I'm still pissed off.

Yes, I was also not amused by that change.

My default search engine is DuckDuckGo (because it doesn't collect/store all the information that Google does), and then I go to Google, Wikipedia, or even Bing if DuckDuckGo doesn't find/do what I want. I'm using Google mostly for news searches, translate, and the occasional "half a cup in mL" sort of queries.

That's the second mention of DuckDuckGo in comments to this post, so I've bookmarked it. Thank you.

DuckDuckGo is excellent, and I regularly confuse people by telling them I am quacking for something.
