Another one
I was getting tired of being the only person on Earth who didn't like the book. Had a vast feeling of letdown when I finally got around to it a few years ago.

after finally getting around to, eh, R. Bolano's The Savage Detectives, i'm thinking HEY this is the book On the Road is supposed to be !

Carolyn Cassady’s memoir Off the Road is utterly essential. It was first recommended to me by a woman who said that when she read Kerouac she wondered who did the dishes.
