Veterans Day
All honor to those who served; none to those who lied us into wars we had no business in.

I think G. K. Chesterton said it best, though I regret that he limited to England:

The men that worked for England
They have their graves at home:
And bees and birds of England
About the cross can roam.

But they that fought for England,
Following a falling star,
Alas, alas for England
They have their graves afar.

And they that rule in England,
In stately conclave met,
Alas, alas for England,
They have no graves as yet.

As for me... I resented being required to fight to support a petty tin-pot Dictator, but in the long run I'm glad to have helped to enable the present relatively free South Korea, so... you're welcome. (And I'm glad you were punished by being assigned alternative/objector-status duty in San Francisco during the Summer Of Love. Envious, but still glad.)

Rudyard Kipling wrote of his son's death in World War I: "If they ask why we died, tell them because our fathers lied."
