As predicted in The Space Merchants, Chinese restaurant owner puts poppies in his noodles in an effort to addict his customers. He was caught when a failed urine test led back to him, so I guess the war on some drugs is good for something.

That strikes me as being interesting but silly. Acto my calculations, yup, consuming such noodles/broth just about every day for a week would probably result in a positive take on an opiate-in-urine test. So, I understand, would eating a poppyseed bagel or hammentaschen every day. A perceptible opiate effect on the body? No Way. And if I"ve converted the currencies correctly, that merchant's action couldn't possibly be cost-effective. The whole thing is still, I would say, in the area of Fantasy & Science-Fiction.

I was just about to write a similar comment, so I'll just agree.

It seemed rather inefficient to me too. Like poppyseed rolls and hemp drinks, it seemed like a way to flunk a piss test without getting high.
