RIP, kinda
Joan Rivers proved that a woman can succeed in comedy if she does enough fat shaming and slut shaming.

And gloating about dead Palestinian children. Don't forget that one.

She was a tough old broad who did and said things she shouldn't have. But underneath everything there was a bitter and glittery talent that more than occasionally shone through. I really want to see the documentary about her; "Joan Rivers; A Piece of Work." What Roger Ebert said about the documentary, and about her, is worth reading.

And don't forget the self-shaming. Yeah, she got her start when a woman couldn't be accepted as a comedian unless she stood up there and hated on herself, but she never seemed to move past that.

like most of us, she was a mixed bag. didn't find her terribly mean (compared to, say, Don Rickles ..)
