And I don't even care if Bush did it too
President Obama shocked the conscience of the nation by wearing a light-colored suit.

Thanx to novapsyche

Astonishing. This must be a US thing (like the preference for navy blue suits - to me blue suits = lesbian). What's slightly icky is that taupe is awfully close to brown, especially in that picture.

But grody though it is of the WaPo to couple that silly piece of fashion chinwaggery with serious news about Russia, I'm even more shocked that they can't tell "siting" and "citing" apart. Can I get a job copyediting for those amateurs?

At least the media is now making incredibly stupid comments about public figures' fashion choices about men as well as women.

That's progress, right? Kinda? Maybe?

The Conscience of the Nation just *wishes* they could look as sharp as the President does.

Ever since Ron Reagan wore a windowpane check suit, I doubt any subsequent president has committed a comparable breach of sartorial taste. But what the heck, Nancy liked it, and he dressed for her.

As for the commentariat, they need to get real. It's August, in Washington DC. The traditional suit is seersucker, with a bow tie. Not that any president has actually worn that since Harry Truman... There's nothing wrong with a light colored suit in summer. If someone wants to complain about it being a shade of brown, the old dictate that "gentlemen don't wear brown in town," never gained acceptance on this side of the Atlantic.
