Hi supergee- I just read ND (which I still think of as DR) and what you say about the Commercial and how "it brought a lot of Them into what used to be a place for Us" - that's how I felt about Star Wars. (Star Trek kind of did the same thing, except that Those People were happy to go to their own conventions and largely leave Us alone. I do remember getting a free membership to one of Those around 1973 and seeing a drawing called "Spock Enslaved" with Spock on his knees in chains that totally blew my mind and all of my friends' minds. God these people are weird! Let's go back to our own convention where people are normal!)

Anyway when Star Wars won Academy Awards that shocked and kind of upset me. Our movies aren't supposed to even be noticed by Them, by the Academy. What is the world coming to! And indeed, it did lead to a lot of families with children coming to cons which was annoying to me. But it's better if you could have the attitude my First Fandom dad had, that more sci fi is good even if it's Lost in Space. I do think Star Wars is a great movie and not just a good sci fi movie, and so were the next two.

I had to look up "mimetic fiction" and that was interesting. Thanks for another good read.

Thank you; glad you enjoyed it. Star Wars didn't do much for me, but I'm not a visual person.

Well, as my dad always said of Moby-Dick, it was a good yarn.
