Academics say Christopher Hitchens was right about Mother Teresa:
MT was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction.

And about time, too, I might add. There were many points of disagreement I had with Hitchens, but here he was precisely on the mark. Truth be told (even with all the disagreements) I do miss him.

Likewise. Don't like the theophobia, don't like his support for the Iraq nonsense, but I love a lot of his stuff.
