Verbal grooming behavior
Sometimes I have as much trouble understanding extraverts as some people have with opposite sexual orientations. I called my hearing-aid place and told the receptionist I needed an emergency appointment because one aid was broken and I could hardly hear at all. When I got there, she engaged me in a lengthy mundane conversation.

She must have gotten her training at the same place as those dentists that pack your mouth with cotton and hanging dental instruments and then ask, "So, got any fun vacation plans?"

Another one:

Introvert (thinks): I'm reading a book at lunch break, or on the bus, because I don't want to engage in conversation.
Extravert (thinks): If she's reading, she must be desperate to have someone engage her in conversation.

B. has gotten this a lot at lunch breaks or on the bus to work.

So have I. I once had this conversation, which was the show-stopper I intended it to be:

Extravert: What are you reading?
Me: An apa.
Extravert: What's an apa?
Me: This is.
