I have to wonder about some of those guesses. Northern Canada? South America? What the hell? That looks more like people deliberately trying to screw with the results than honest mistakes.

I wonder how many of those were misclicks; not everyone's good at clicking, and some of them are in the ocean. However, among the first Americans I met was someone who believed Bolivia to be a city in Europe. And it does make sense to be more eager for the US to intervene if you think it's a place on this side of the Atlantic, or yet another place sort of in Southeast Asia.

That graphic is bizarre. Why on earth did they choose to use color to encode "distance of guess from correct location", instead of "approval of intervening in Ukraine"?

All this graphic ends up communicating is "a lot of people pick a lot of places", and it doesn't even give a good idea of that -- how many dots are inside Ukraine versus outside, would you estimate?
