Jon Carroll says
At my coffee place, they've instituted a policy that people charging less than $25 worth of merchandise need not sign their credit card slips. The policy was instituted, I suspect, because too many people were paying for the $3.95 half-caf low-fat lattes with a credit card, causing the jonesing caffeine lovers behind them in line to express impatience by hurling chairs through the front window.
That's funny; I keep seeing these commercials where everything moves along smoothly with everyone using credit cards until some primitive barbarian makes the music stop by using quaint old-fashioned cash. Could the advertisers be telling us a fib?
